Journalist FAMs: Conditions for Travel
Dear Journalist:
Prior to submitting your cruise request, please review the following conditions for travel with Viking River Cruises.
As a courtesy to the media, Viking River Cruises is pleased to offer select itineraries and dates for journalist travel
at journalist discounted rates. For 2008, we offer journalists the ability to travel on any of our river cruise itineraries.
Journalist bookings are capacity controlled and may not be available on all dates; should a journalist cabin not be available on your choice of sailing dates/itinerary, we will offer alternates. Due to the popularity of our cruises, we recommend you request your cruise about 6 months prior to your desired travel date.

Book online via the Journalist FAM Request Form
All journalist bookings at reduced journalist rates are booked via the Journalist FAM Request form and procedure. We are sorry but no journalist cabins may be booked through Reservations.
Payment Policy
Full payment is due 90 days prior to sailing.
Travel Documentation/Visas
Obtaining proper travel documentation, including visas, is the responsibility of the journalist. For U.S. citizens, visas are required for travel to Russia and China. Non-U.S. citizens should check with their appropriate consulate.
Passenger Information Form (PIF)
A Passenger Information Form (PIF) must be received within 48 hours of confirmation of booking. The information on the form must be correct and complete to prevent errors in ticketing; incorrectly submitted information will trigger a change fee.
At-Cost or Subsidized Airfare Restrictions
Flights booked for journalists are offered at our ‘at-cost’ rate, and such flights are obtained through our contract rates with select airlines. Not all commercial airlines/departures/seats will be available, nor can journalists apply frequent flyer miles towards their airfare cost due to conditions of our contract. Should a journalist wish to use frequent flyer miles towards their air travel, they will need to book their own air. Also, for reserved seating, special meals or other arrangements, journalists must contact the airline directly once booked. Once a flight quote is confirmed by a journalist and ticketed, any cancellation or change charges become the responsibility of the journalist.
Cancellation/Change Penalties
Any changes to a booking must be received no later than 90 days prior to be made without a charge to the journalist. After final payment Viking reserves the right to charge a change fee of $100 per person for any changes to cruise bookings. See above for airfare changes.
Bookings cancelled by a journalist due to unforeseen circumstances will incur a minimum of a $100 per person cancellation fee, and if the cruise involves air or hotel reservation costs (including a hotel stay as part of the cruise), the journalist will be liable for all charges incurred by Viking River Cruises in making their booking.
